Explore WA Heritage

Western Australia has a rich heritage just waiting to be explored.

Our heritage recognises important contributions from the past, provides understanding and value in the present, and is our legacy for future generations.

Heritage can incorporate both the tangible and the intangible. It is present in many forms such as landmarks, places, buildings, spaces, views and the stories associated with them.

Our Things to See & Do section provides a wealth of information about places you can see and explore. You can stay in heritage properties, explore heritage trails, or visit heritage sites and attractions.

You can also explore the history of State Registered places in your local community by searching inHerit, a database of heritage places. Some places are open to the public, such as parks, churches, halls, museums, restaurants and hotels. Other places are private residences and we ask that you respect their privacy and only admire these beautiful homes from the street.

You can also take a virtual tour of some of our heritage places through Heritage In Action picture gallery. Spotlight on Heritage contains a range of interviews and inspiration stories about heritage places and the people who care for our heritage.

Interested in the history of your own home? If there is no published history of your home, you can do the research yourself with the help of our publication ‘Researching Heritage Places’. It provides an outline of the available sources of information and how to make the most of them.
